A Childs Story
Meet Ty
A 9 Year Old,
With RSD-CRPS

"My name is Kelly. My 9 year old son Tyler has suffered with RSD since 10/07. Since that time we have been doctoring locally, however his disease has started to spread causing much more pain, lessened his mobility, and he is now currently unable to attend school due to this. It is crucial that we seek treatment with Dr. Anthony Kirkpatrick in Tampa, Florida as all other forms of treatment such as meds, injections, physical therapy, patches, creams, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy has failed. In addition to the RSD, Tyler now suffers Avascular Necrosis of the affected limb, thus due to a lack of blood supply to the region. Since this diagnosis, his Navicular bone has died and collapsed, only adding to his pain. This is a surgical repair, however you know yourself with RSD, surgical intervention in most cases are not well tolerated and or just not an option. I could go on and on, as for the past 2 + years our life has been turned upside down. I never thought in a million years that a simple go cart accident and a fracture could cause so much pain and disability. It is a terrible feeling to know that help is available, but the only thing standing in my way is finances. I am currently working on applying for grants, however it is unknown whether or not they will be approved and the time it takes for approval may just be too long. I am so very thankful for your concern, dedication and assistance in this matter. I have been searching for months and have not found anything as promising as I did when I contacted Jason (usarsd.org )."

TY

In October, 2007 Tyler ("Ty") sustained a crush injury to his left foot.  As a result of this injury, he fractured his left navicular bone.  He was treated by a local pediatric orthopedist that applied a cast and ordered that it remain in place for four weeks.  One and a half weeks into his casting treatment, Ty began to have severe pain with light touch to his toes or with slight touching to the outer parts of his cast.  Shortly thereafter, his exposed foot began to change in color and temperature.  After repeated calls to his physician, his cast was removed.  However, a new one was applied that same day.  We were instructed that all was well and to return home with no worries.
